The Michael Jackson Thanksgiving Fest
By King Tash Taz

After prayer and blessings from Rabbis, Paul Masson, and others D. E. has embraced technology to assist him in spreading his message. He has purchased a portable DVD player from J & R and now plays DVDs of the King of Pop. He has called the DVD player “that bad boy.” Now, those who visit the Temple can watch Michael Jackson in high definition.
As I walked the streets of Brooklyn I did not sense “the fell” of Thanksgiving in the air, even though it is this week. There are not decorations in the streets. The spirit of giving seems dormant and missing.
D. E. is also an international artist/painter and grandfather. He has an idea for the world. He desires to develop a November Michael Jackson Thanksgiving Fest; German influenced with a twist of Caribbean favor.
He wants to meet with the German Counselor.
He wants the Fest is to take place on Church Avenue, Brooklyn, New York. He has experienced the October Fest held in Germany. He has partied with the Germans and states “they party like its no bodies business.” No matter how cold; they show the weather, Who’s Bad?
November’s weather can be feakin’ cold and some may be reluctant to come outdoors. However, he wants that Spirit displayed by the Germans to prevail here on Church. Celebrating together Michael Jackson’s memory on Thanksgiving is his dream.
He explained his idea after returning from Washington. “A Merchant Association is needed for this area,” he said to me. “An artistic exhibition explosion for Thanksgiving. In memory of Michael Jackson with a Caribbean favor. I want the NYPD and Fire Department to be the first ones to carve the turkey for the people under my artistic leadership.”
“Germany was the first place that came to my mind. When I had the idea for a Michael Jackson Fest,” he said after I asked him, “Why Germany?”
“The Germans aggressively love Michael Jackson!”
“No!No!” he said which is almost a German expression like “Yah! Yah!” in Harlem. He reminisces about October Fest in Germany, “Dinke” and states he wants a November Fest here in Brooklyn.
Bavaria, Germany is where they ‘Rock the Night Away.’ Quebec, Canada is where they ‘Blame it on the Boogie.’
“In Bavaria and Quebec they party outdoors no matter the weather. Ju Ve (open day) is the celebration on Church Avenue that leads up to the West Indian Labor Day Parade. Between 21st street and Utica Avenue, about a mile, you can find people partying and see floats being assembled. It is the Party before the Parade.”
D. E. ended his message with:
“I want the celebrating to be a Pop Celebration.”
“Subsequent Michael Jackson’s death; who is going to exchange with the People of the World?”
